What is Intella?

Intella is an indexing search engine that shows search results in a map. The map shows relations between search results. Intella supports a long list of different data types. It allows you to search and view emails, files and documents, on local and network hard drives in order to find vital evidence.

Welcome to Intella™. This message lists information that will help you to use Intella™ successfully. Widely regarded as intuitive and easy to use, you will find Intella™ even more productive when help and assistance is at hand. Below we describe how to get started and where to find support.

A. Activation, registration, and installation
 
1. Activate your Dongle
You will receive a USB dongle that allows you to use Intella™. It is important to know that it is a blank dongle. The dongle needs to be activated in order to continue using Intella after the evaluation period.
Activation is a two-step process:
    A) You send the dongle file to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it along with your organizations name, address, contact person, contact phone number.
    B) We send you the activation file that needs to be uploaded to the dongle. The Dongle Activation Guide explains how to do this. You will find the dongle activation guide attached to this email.

2. How to register
A registered user has access the Vound forum and the Vound support center. Please click this link for the registration page:

After registration we will activate your account within 12 hours.

Why register?

After registration you will have access direct access to the Intella installation files. There is no need to use the download request form again. With your login you can access the Vound Knowledge and Support Center to see a history of your support tickets. You will have access to the Vound forum that allows you to share information, tips and trick with other Intella users. The Vound forum is the place where we make announcements of new products and events such as training days and Webinars.

3. Install the Software
   - Go to http://support.vound-software.com/ and login with the name and password you created.
   - Go to "Downloads" and download the latest version of the Intella™.
   - Double click the exe-file to launch the Intella™ installer.
 
 
B. Useful tips
 
1. Get notified on Program Updates
Intella customers are entitled to new releases of software they purchased for one year after the purchase date. At the end of the year you have the option to purchase an additional year of updates. It is important that you use the most up-to-date version. New versions often contain features and improvements to the product. To ensure you are using the most up to date version please do the following:
   - In File > Preferences you will find "Check for updates". Please select this option so that you are notified when new versions of the software are available.
   - We will also announce new updates in the RSS feed of the Vound website. Subscribe yourself to this feed.
   - Check the LinkedIn group "Intella - Vound" for announcements of new versions.

2. Use the Vound Knowledge and Support Center
You will find Vound Knowledge and Support Center here: http://vound.helpserve.com
It contains news items, knowledgebase articles, a download section with additional information, and it is the place to create support tickets. If you want to read a short introduction on working with Intella, we recommend that you download the Getting Started Guide from the support center.

3. How to report problems
The best way to report problems is to create a ticket on http://vound.helpserve.com. We will respond to the ticket within 1 business day. Log in to vound.helpserve.com to see the status of your tickets.

4. Keeping your dongle up to date.
To ensure you are able to run the latest versions of Intella, it may be necessary to update your dongle from time to time. Dongle updates are usually needed when a new release is used. As an example: When you upgrade from version 1.2 to version 1.3, we ask you contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and we will update your dongle for the new version (as long as you have a Support and Maintenance subscription). An upgrade from  version 1.2 to version 1.2.1 will not require a dongle update.

5. Keeping your Support and Maintenance subscription up to date
If you have question on the status of your Support and Maintenance subscription, or if you want to purchase a new Support and Maintenance subscription, please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. What is required to run Intella?

Minimum requirements:

  • Operating System Windows XP (Service Pack 2), Vista
  • Java Environment   Sun Java (TM) 2 Runtime Environment or Development Kit, Version 1.6.0 or later (included on install disk)
  • System Memory (RAM)  512 MB minimum, 1-2 GB recommended for optimum performance
  • Disk Space  2000 Megabytes required for Intella installation. Allow extra space for case files and there user data

Required Software: Lotus Notes 7.x or higher

 

What is Intella's indexing speed?

How about live indexing?

Suppose you want to index a PST-file while the user is still using it or you want to index a running PC across a network.

In that case try the wonderful tool by Matt Shannon, F-Response, and enhance the functionality of Intella to a live forensic tool for under $300. F-response can be found here. A truly must-have tool!

 

Is there a trial version?

Yes, you can ask for a trial version of Intella here. The trial version runs for 14 days.

 

Is Intella training available?

Intella training is available from our resellers. Please contact us to learn more about training schedules.

 

How about email attachments?

Answer: Intella will search both the email and the attachment for the keyword(s) and metadata.

 

Can Intella deduplicate search results?

Yes, Intella can deduplicate search results. During indexing the checksum (hash) of every item is stored. Intella can be set to show or hide duplicates while using it. The checksums are made with MD5.

 

What is the relation between Forensics Matter and Aduna?

Forensics Matter and Aduna are the joint developers of Intella. They participate together in the joint-venture Vound. Read more here.

 

Can Intella index an Encase image?

Using a image mounting tool like Libewf Intella can index the Active files only. To index the unallocated you should first carve the image and save the data to a folder and index that along with the image using Intella.
